Technology to Detect and Treat Thyroid Disorders

The Thyroid Surgical Institute utilizes the various different technologies available to detect and treat the various thyroid disorders.

Blood tests – A blood test is utilized to determine how much thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is present in the patients bloodstream. TSH controls the release of thyroid hormone. If these levels are abnormally high, it may suggest that the growth of cells is not being properly controlled, which may indicate a thyroid disorder or thyroid cancer.

Thyroid Scans are radioactive pictures of the thyroid gland that will show if the gland is functioning or not.

Thyroid Ultrasound is a type of sonar that will show if the tumor is solid or fluid filled.

CAT Scans and MRIs are very high-tech x-rays used to scan the thyroid. These technologies are typically not the most common for thyroid cancer detection.

Needle Biopsy or Fine Needle Aspiration is only recommended for patient who have been seen by a thyroid surgeon.
