Carotid Arteries Screen

A simple ultrasound scan is used to detect narrowing of the carotid arteries in the neck caused by cholesterol buildup/plaque which can lead to stroke.

Risk Factors

  • History of cardiovascular or peripheral vascular disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure
  • Family history of carotid disease
  • Smoker
  • Diabetic
  • Overweight
  • Abnormal heart score
  • Calcium on x-ray
  • Age: Over age 65
