Wellness ProgramDo you need to exercise but don't know how to work it into your schedule?

Do you want to eat a well-balanced diet but you're confused about serving amounts, calories, fat grams and how to figure out those food labels?

Have you been the victim to yo-yo dieting? You know, losing your desired weight only to suffer the disappointment of gaining it back again?

Never fear. Health is possible thanks to the health professionals at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

By participating in DMH's medically directed Health Is Possible wellness program, you can take the guesswork out of making necessary and desired lifestyle changes.

Designed by DMH dietitians and administered through DMH's SHORE facility at 2122 N. 27th St., the program uniquely combines experts from a multitude of health disciplines. An exercise specialist, Decatur's only neuropsychologist, registered dietitians, and more all come together to show you how Health Is Possible.

During the 12-week wellness class, you will hear from an exercise specialist on how to set goals and develop an exercise program. In fact, DMH's exercise specialist will help design an exercise program tailored just for you.

Woman On Weight ScaleAs part of Health Is Possible, registered dietitians will review with you the components of the food guide pyramid, how to determine portion sizes and how to read labels. They will discuss the important relationship between intake and expenditure and how to create a negative calorie balance. These trained nutrition professionals will even take you on a supermarket tour.

Woman Eating SaladAnd last but certainly not least, participants will hear from a psychologist on how to find balance in your life, how to comfort yourself with something other than food and how to shape your behavior and enjoy your life after sweets and fries.

By participating in the 12-week program, you will also get a health risk appraisal and body fat composition.

Health Is Possible combines this multi-disciplinary approach to lifestyle change by providing an educational and an exercise component. The 45-minute educational component meets on Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can take advantage of the supervised exercise sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. All components of Health Is Possible are held at SHORE.
