Have you heard about DMH's WiFi hot spot?
The new “hot spot” at DMH is Kirkland Lobby. No hors d’oeuvres or live bands, but family and visitors can use the new free wireless high-speed internet connection while they wait.
“We live in an electronic society where communication by e-mail and information from websites is a part of everyday life,” says Jim Edwards, Director, DMH Information Systems. “Providing internet access for customers is one small way DMH can help our customers continue their regular activities while they are here.”
The free wireless internet connection works throughout the entire Kirkland Lobby for family and visitors to use their e-mail and check websites for personal or professional business.
“The DMH hotspot is similar to other businesses, like hotels and coffee shops that offer this service to their customers,” says DMH Webmaster Becky Weaver, adding that this new service is a separate network and the hospital is not providing email services. “Visitors should use whatever e-mail service they currently have.”
To use the hotspot with a laptop computer, the laptop must be set-up for DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), commonly referred to as Wi-Fi enabled, which allows a laptop to automatically connect to the internet. Most laptop computers have a built-in battery, but a few electrical outlets are available for those who need to plug in.
The DMH hot spot connection provides basic security features like content filtering and basic virus protection for users.
