Golf Tournament Proceeds to Benefit Women’s Breast Health Education at Decatur Memorial Hospital

A check for $21,000 was presented to Decatur Memorial Foundation on October 22, 2004 from the Sandy McKenzie Memorial Golf Tournament Committee with funds raised during the Fourth Annual Sandy McKenzie Golf Tournament. These funds will be used for breast cancer research in Decatur and Macon County; the Mammography Initiative (no-cost screening mammograms to women who meet the financial guidelines) and breast cancer support groups, in memory of Ms. McKenzie, who lost her fight with breast cancer in 2000.

The golf tournament, presented by Heinekin, drew 108 golfers to Southside Country Club on September 13, raising a total of $21,000. According to Co-Chair of the tournament Denny Harris, the event has raised a total of $74,000 over the past four years.

A longtime hospital friend and supporter, Sandy McKenzie died of breast cancer in 2000.
