New area provides one-stop shopping

Combine a convenient location, streamlined healthcare services, efficient staff and satisfied patients, and you've described the new DMH Outpatient Care Center.

"Our patients love the fact that any of their outpatient treatment or procedure needs, such as EKGs, injections, lab work, or dressing changes, can be handled in one area," says Jenny Brandenburg, DMH director of Pediatrics and the Outpatient Care Center. "It's much less confusing, because they no longer have to go to multiple places in the Hospital. Patients also appreciate that we're easy to find—right off the Kirkland Lobby."

Many patients requiring these types of services, such as antibiotic therapy, make daily hospital visits, so the convenience and efficiency of the new Outpatient Care Center are exponential, Brandenburg adds. And rather than call in different hospital units for ancillary services, EKG technicians, phlebotomists and other specialists are housed in the OCC. The expanded Center also handles pre-admission services. "Patients come to us one or two weeks prior to surgery, and we complete their blood work, EKG, and have them meet with an anesthetist," Jenny says of the one-to-two-hour process. "We do everything to safely prepare them for surgery."

The DMH Outpatient Care Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"Patients can take advantage of free valet parking, go right through the registration door, and find us just around the corner," Jenny says.
